Why use

Standardises an eye drop taper into a clear frequency schedule and works out how much to dispense.

When to use

Use when a prescriber has specified a sequence of eye drop frequencies to taper through.

How to use

  1. Select which eye or eyes the drops are for.
  2. Select whether the drops are dispensed as a bottle or as unit dose vials.
  3. Enter the frequency per day and the number of days for the first row.
  4. Click Add Taper to insert another row for the next frequency step.
  5. Click Calculate to generate the schedule and total volume or vials needed.
  6. Click Copy to copy the full schedule.

Pitfalls and drawbacks

Assumes one drop per administration and 20 drops per ml for bottle dispensing. For unit dose vials, one vial is assumed sufficient for one or both eyes at a single administration. Always confirm the schedule against the prescriber's instructions before giving to a patient.

Advice

Add one row per frequency step in the order they should be used, each row is used exactly as entered, the schedule does not automatically calculate steps in between.
